Healing Source Acupuncture - Danette De Cannett, L.Ac.
Education and Training

Danette De Cannett has been involved in some aspect of the healing profession since her junior year at MU-Columbia, MO.  After earning a Bachelor of Health Science, she had an opportunity to work in Public Health with California Health Decisions in Los Angeles.  With this experience she gained insight into alternative modalities of healing, and in December 1999, she received a four-year Masters Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Yo San University in Santa Monica, California.  In the years between her two degrees, Danette studied and practiced Hatha yoga at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Center in Venice, CA.  While studying the nuts and bolts of Chinese Medicine at Yo San University, she also had extensive training in chi gong and tai chi as well as classes and discussion groups based on the principles of Taoism.

Experience

Danette is licensed in California and Arizona to practice acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.  California's licensing process is extensive and widely accepted as equal to or in place of the national certification by NCCAOM.  After an extensive internship with Yo San University, Danette started her practice in Redondo Beach at The Back Center and The Balance Center,  and then GURU Chiropractic in San Pedro before moving to the Phoenix area.  She transferred to an acupuncture clinic specializing in fertility where she expanded her knowledge and experience of women's health.  While continuing to practice at this clinic on an as needed basis, and covering for vacation and maternity leave, Danette began taking patients at Village Health (now ProFormance Health). This is where she remained for three years, making it her home away from home and building what she considers her Village Health family with whom she remains close even after the move to open her own private practice at Gaea Wellness Center in Old Town Scottsdale.  Danette currently practices and resides in Scottsdale and enjoys being an active member of the Phoenix/Scottsdale Valley community.

Specialty and Style of Practice

Danette's experience, as shown above, has been focused primarily on pain management, "sports" medicine and injuries, and women's health and fertility. Of course there are many other areas she has had success in treating as well.

Danette finds it important to take the time to connect with her patients, allowing ample time with each person.  Often her patients find multiple benefits for which they would not have otherwise sought out treatment.  She is drawn to working with patients who are going through necessary but sometimes difficult life changes or transformations.  It is common for symptoms to surface during these times and it is always important to treat the whole person.

There has been a more recent re-interest in working with children and teens in the area of mental health and well-being.  Finding alternatives to prescription drugs for these children has been a passion since her early years at MU when Ritalin became the drug of choice for kids with ADHD. (Please check the link to NAET.) Also, it is said that currently 1 in 150 children will have some kind of autistic spectrum disorder and there is a list of new and old medications used in their treatment as well.  An understanding of the purpose of these children and their place in our spiritual evolution is also something that Danette believes should be considered as a path to a more fulfilling life for them.  Chinese Medicine, along with some progressive therapies, may be a way to bring these children and teens closer to fulfilling that destiny as they mature into young adults.
